[SOLVED] Screen flicker on startup and when waking up

For several months my LCD monitor has flickered on startup, then settled down and worked fine. Now it takes 10 minutes to settle down. And lately it's begun doing this same thing after it sleeps and I wake it up. Now it takes up to 20 minutes to settle.
The strange thing is that after it settles down it's perfectly normal. No bad spots, color problems, etc. Perfect photos, internet, text, etc.
Any ideas? Is this a dying monitor, a dying video card, cable. . . what?
I've had this monitor for 12 years, a Samsung syncmaster 226bw. And I've had the PC (graphic card included) for 10 years. Nothing lasts forever!

The best way to troubleshoot it is try your monitor on a different system. If it exhibits the same behaviour then its the monitor at fault.
