screen flickering when looking around on games

Hi guys, specs: i7 950 running at turbo of 3.2Ghz, Asus 970GTX running an LG full hd monitor @ 60Hz, 16GB RAM, Windows 10 64 pro, Asus Rampage ii Extreme, 1tb WD HDD. I have recently upgraded to the fore mentioned card, and on beamNG Drive, I get a kind of flickering across the screen when looking around. It's fine driving at speed and slow speed, fps are anything between 30-100 depending on the map. Just wondering if this is down to my monitor not having a high enough refresh rate, or my processor?? I am running the game in all high graphics settings, except dynamic reflection's. I have used vertical sync, but to no avail.
Any ideas?
Cheers guys and girls.
Kenton.

Hi guys, just a quick update to any one that is interested.
I have just purchased a BenQ XL2411Z 24 inch 144Hz 1ms LED Gaming Monitor, and wow, what an amazing difference! Everything has been smoothed out. Even down to the mouse pointer on the desktop screen! I realise i am maybe getting a little over excited, but i have never used anything higher than 60Hz on a pc before. The screen tearing on BeamNG Drive have virtually all disappeared, and the frame rate has gone up loads! No more stuttering, no slight freezes before a heavy crash.... The difference is quite amazing. I have been playing so much more since i got this monitor as it has made the game so much more desirable. I know the monitor is not the newest, nor has it got a new...

Any possibility of uploading a video? You can show us your settings and then we can see the flickering you're talking about.

I had a bad HDMI cable. It shows it's pains in different ways. My former 32" TV had this bad red and black snow banding during some more intense times. My current 32" TV had loss of signal issues. I of course blamed the snow on my EVGA 970 FTW GFX card but "fortunately" my old TV died forcing me to buy a new TV.After the cable change I have no issues.

I agree with what I think you are thinking. You think it might be tearing? You did mention the vertical sync so you know the TV may be too slow for your card. The interesting troubleshooting step with the "snow" was that the screenshot came back clean. That strongly suggested the issue wasn't local to my PC. Hindsight...

Could the issue be due to some setting with your monitor?

30-100 FPS is one heck of a window which doesn't truly suggest a monitor issue. That possibly has to do with in game settings. Have you tried bottoming out all the settings and playing that way? The 950 with the 970 and 16GB of RAM isn't a weak combo and is on par with that game's recommended(not min) specs..

Hi, thanks for the answer! Its deffo not the HDMI cable, but yeah i think it could be 'tearing' too, its not stopping me from gaming, but it is annoying. The 30-100fps is just the difference in maps, if i am using one particular map, it is well know to use a lot of resources, and sometimes i have been using this map and the pc will use just over 9GB of RAM, as it is a VERY big map. that map i typically get 30-40FPS, but on a normal size map i get 70-100 FPS. I am thinking this flickering / tearing is down to my monitor not having a very high refresh rate.... I could be wrong though.
Any other suggestions greatly received!
K

I know the monitor is not the newest, nor has it got a new 'display port' but using a good DVI-D Dual link cable i am well impressed and so pleased i made the purchase. I feel i am now getting MUCH more out of my GTX970, even though it will always be slightly held back because of the age of the rest of my antique system!
Have a great weekend Guys and Girls,
