This has happened twice in the past few months. My screen will go black while my monitor and computer stays on. During this time I can also hear sound from my headset still. If I'm on a voice program I can also still hear and talk to people. The only fix for me is to hard restart my computer. The motherboard/CPU/PSU are all new, I recently replaced them 4 months ago when I ran into problems with them. I am suspecting it is either my monitor or graphics card, can't be sure what it is.

PC Specs:
Intel Core i7 4790K Quad Core @ 4GHZ
ASUS Z97 Pro Gamer ATX LGA1150
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5
Corsair RM750x Fully Modular Power Supply 80+ Gold
Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3
Crucial BX200 480GB SATA SSD
Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM SATA HDD

Swapping out the most likely culprits is required, starting with the cheapest item which is the cable from the monitor to your PC, since the existing cable may be faulty (rare but not impossible).

If the GPU was faulty or had poor connection in the PCIe slot you would see "No signal" message on the monitor, and since you haven't mentioned that I doubt the problem lies there.

Hi, thanks for responding. When the monitor stops picking up my screen it constantly switches back and forth between "Analog" and "HDMI", I have my monitor connected to my GPU through an HDMI cable, is this message the equivalent to a "No signal" message? Also I don't actually have a spare monitor, graphics card, or cable on hand with me, I'll have to purchase or borrow new ones.

Although the curious thing is that when I'm on a voice program and playing a game with somebody they tell me as soon as it happens, I leave the game, which presumably means that my game crashed. Is there any way to tell whether or not the GPU is crashing?
