Screen randomly blank, system responsive, backlight on

Maybe this is something simple...or maybe that's wishful thinking.

Toshiba A135-S4407 notebook. The screen will randomly go black, with the TFT back-light still on, only when on battery power, but absolutely nothing else is affected. I have been listening to music when it happens, the music doesn't skip, system is still 100% responsive and unaffected. Closing the screen, pressing buttons, clicking/moving the mouse/touch pad doesn't do a thing. When on battery power, I have the power button configured to go into standby/sleep when pressed, this is the only thing that works to bring it right back, press that, the system nearly instantly goes to sleep as normal, and then click again, comes back to life, screen pops right on. It tends to happen about twice through one cycle usage of the battery, so, once every 45 mins or so.

Hey nonotme42,

I think i found the solution to your problem. Researching i found out that most commun problem with monitors is the backlight on your monitor. In most cases it is the screen inverter. This is what i discovered about some screen backlight failure symptoms that could be related to a bad inverter board.

1- Latop boots as usual but after a few seconds the screen blacks out.
2-you can still see an image on the screen but it is very dim.
3- you might use a flashlight to see it better.

if you experience something like this, i suggest to visit this web site and start searching in EBay how much would cost your new inverter board depending on your monitor especifications. I Had the same problem with my notebook inspiron 1525/1526 and i ended up buying a new inverter board. I found mine for $30 through a company called E-smart from Dallas TX.

If this doesn't fix the problem, you better buy a brand new monitor because the cause is your monitor's backlight. It very difficult to replace and in all cases you end it up replacing your monitor anyway.

-----I just received my new inverter board for my Inpiron 1525/1526 and i changed it myself. It was not difficult and my monitor works!!!!!! i fixed my problem. I really recommend to do this if you are having the same problems that i had with my notebook and you can not find a cure after trying everything else.

Actually. This screen will just change colors, Generally black out, green, pink or blue...and stay there until I reset the video (generally, I just pop it in standby, and pop it back out for a quick solution.)

Mind you, it does this ONLY on battery power.
