Hello all,
I have been having issues with my screen resolution. My screen flickers and then switches from 1024x768 to something like 300x1200. The screen becomes very narrow(about half the normal size) and very long (i can't see the top or bottom of the screen). I am using a kds visual sensations 17 inch monitor and a ati 9600. I have raised my fresh rate from 60 to 75 and it seemed to help for a while but it is happening again. I am using the latest drivers. Anyone see this problem before? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

It would be helpful if you told us when this happens, and it also wouldn't hurt for you to post your system specs. Does it happen in a 3D game, or immediately when Windows boots up, or does it suddenly happen in the middle of usage?, etc. Also, does the prob happen on resolutions other thean 1024x768.

KilgoreTrout, are you from Kilgore, Texas? I'm from Jacksonville, TX, 20 miles south of TYler, Texas.

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!

It happens randomly even on the log on screen. It also can happen while playing games or just surfing. I thought I had this fixed when I increase my refresh rate but the problem has returned. I have tried to change my resolution while experincing this problem and it does change but within the narrow screen. I have added my system's specs to my sig. Thanks for the reply.

I am not from Texas. Kilgore Trout is a Kurt Vonnegut reference. He wrote slaughter house 5.

I have a feeling the problem might be with the moinitor itself. Do you have access to an extra monitor to attempt installing and see if the problem goes away on the other monitor? If it goes away, we can conclude that your monitor is not compatible with your system. Also, what Operating Sytem are you running, Windows XP Home, Win 98, or what? If the problem reoccurs, then there is probably some glitch in the video card, or it may not be seated in all the way into the AGP slot.

I swapped out the monitor and you were correct, it was a problem with the acutal monitor and not the video card. thanks for your help.
