Screen Saver not appearing

When I came in from outside, I noticed that my computer screen saver was not on. It was just sitting there, but I could listen and tell my PC was in sleep mode. I moved the mouse and I could hear it return from sleep mode. So I tried to test my screen saver, I used many different ones but no matter what, they won't come on. This all worked fine yesterday. I just ran a virus scan on both partitions as well. My screen saver does come on when I hit preview. I am not a newbie so if anyone can help, please do. I run Windows ME.

No picture signal is sent to your monitor when your computer is in sleep mode.
