I am at the point where I can no longer stand it. If I don't get this fixed
soon I am getting rid of my computer. I've had this same problem since I got
the computer about 2 yrs ago and still have not been able to fix it - and
nobody on this site seems to have a solution for it. everyone suggests it is
a virus or spyware BUT IT IS NOT.

The problem:

My screen has a mind of its own. When using IE or any of the Microsoft
Office Products the screen continuously scrolls up and down....ALL THE TIME.
It never stops. It is very frustrating. And on top of that, when using IE,
not only does it scroll up and down it also loads pages on its own, goes
"Forward" and "Back" pages and when you try to type addresses in the address
bar, it does all kinds of things (i.e. selecting various other addresses to
load, completing wrong addresses, running searches). I honestly cannot stand
this any longer.

People always suggest a virus or spyware, but I know it is not. I run both
my antivirus and my spyware software once a week and am always clean. Plus,
this happened right from the get-go when I first got the computer. I've d/l
the drivers from the manufacturer's website, re-installed drivers, everything
I can possibly think of, but nothing works. I have searched endlessly for a
solution but have founbd nothing. The closest thing I could find was a known
bug w/ XP about the cursor jumping around or the mouse closing windows etc -
but I don't have that problem.

If anybody can help me I will be so appreciative. Otherwise, this computers
life is going to come to an end.

Thanks in advance!

Replace your mouse with a new one. If that does not solve the problem,
replace your video card with a new one.

The wheel on the mouse has a switch under it - pressing the
wheel down (not turning it) clicks the switch, which turns
on the screen scroller. This is shown as a circle with four
arrows in it. If the mouse is moved from where it was when
the switch was pressed, the screen scrolls continuously. The
switch in press-on / press-off. The switch could be bad.

Heres my fix: (xp sp3, mx518 mouse)

Start, Run, msconfig, startup tab, uncheck Logitech Setpoint.

Never install setpoint again. The end.

I had the same problem and took a more generic approach. Running Windows 7 on a laptop with a Logitech mouse via USB.

I'm not sure it is a script problem as mentioned above as the problem stared before I switched to Mozilla w/ No Script add-on which requires a per instance permission to run scripts on any given page and I still had the problem.

Windows7: Start, Devices & Printers, right click mouse and run troubleshooter. I did this and it did state there was error with my mouse and fixed it. It did stop for now...don't know if it's permanent yet as it happens intermittently as with everyone else.

Good luck!
