Question Screen tearing on new monitor ?

Hey all,

I recently purchased an AOC 32” gaming monitor to connect to my HP Victus 15 laptop. The laptop specs are:

Intel Core i5-12450H​

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650​

8GB RAM​

512GB SSD​


I set the refresh rate to 144hz as that is what the HP Victus has. I have noticed the screen skips a bit while playing games. By skipping, I mean you can see lines across the screen. Not always. The faster the movement, the more visible the lines are. Are there any settings that I may be missing that will help this? The monitor has FreeSync but I am not sure if it is enabled or how to enable it.

Any suggestions? TIA!

I, too, have found articles on how to enable g-sync but they weren’t 100% clear on how to enable g-sync of a freesync monitor.

I have been doing more reading and realize I am experiencing screen tearing. Sorry I’ve been out of the loop for a while! Lol.

My struggle is determining what settings I should apply to my pc to obtain the best performance from my monitor. I can’t figure out how to enable the freesync to work with my Nvidia gpu. To note, the monitor is connected via HDMI. If anyone can point me in the right direction, I’d be very grateful. Thanks.

the software side is the same, provided monitor is running at max speed, G Sync should recognise it as adaptive sync capable. I can't show you now as I don't have an Nvidia card, but it should show in the G Sync part of drivers

What I was trying to find is if there was anything on the display that needs to be enabled for it to run at full speed. I had to change a setting in my LG display to allow Nvidia drivers to see display as G sync compatible.

With the CQ32G3SU, you need to connect the monitor up via DisplayPort and enable ‘Adaptive-Sync’ in the ‘Game Setting’ section of the OSD. When you open up Nvidia Control Panel, you should then see ‘Set up G-SYNC’ listed in the ‘Display’ section. Ensure the ‘Enable G-SYNC, G-SYNC Compatible’ checkbox and ‘Enable settings for the selected display model’ is checked as shown below and press ‘OK’. If you’ve enabled ‘G-SYNC Compatible’ and it was previously disabled, the monitor should re-establish its connection with the system and the technology should now be active.

I really appreciate your time and insight.

Being that I only have an HDMI port, I won’t be able to utilize the freesync function. I also did some reading and found the maximum output for the GTX 1650 when connected via HDMI is 60hz. I’m going to try to set the refresh rate from 144hz to 60hz to see if that makes a difference.

Yes, the GPU only has an hdmi port. The monitor has both hdmi and dp.

I plan on purchasing a desktop early next year with a better GPU that is compatible with the monitor.
