Days ago, a nasty problem started to occur with my PC. After playing a while, it is possible for the screen to turn black, then it quickly comes back, but with a side effect: I get lower FPS. This happened for the first time when I was playing the first LEGO Batman, it did again with Metal Gear Solid V and it happened with Resident Evil 6 today. I use Steam with Big Picture, and I noticed Big Picture also gets lower FPS. Rebooting my PC fixes the problem until it happens again.
Normally, My performance with those games are a solid 60 FPS at 4K with LEGO Batman and RE6 and at 1440p with MGSV. With Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, I got lower and unstable frame rate. With the other two games, my FPS got halved, getting a perfect 30 FPS (overlays showed the frame time was consistent and no micro stutter was noticed). I checked if my display settings were changed when the black screen occured, but nothing was different, the resolution stayed the same with the same refresh rate (3840x2160 @60Hz).
Another problem: It might turn black and when it comes back, the game is in a small borderless window, which I can see my desktop in the background, but the game still says I am in exclusive fullscreen and with the resolution I chose. When this happens, no performance drop is noticed and I can go back to normal by simply changing game display settings. This happened with MGSV and LEGO Batman 3.
I don't know what is going on. I can't say if it's the graphics card, drivers or something else. I don't think it is storage device though, because this problem started to happen when I had a SATA storage, and now I have an SSD NVMe and the problem still occurs.
My System:
MB: ASRock A320M-HD
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 6GB GDDR6 (PNY OC XLR8 192-Bit)
RAM: 16GB (two cards with 8GB DDR4 2666MHz each)
PSU: 500W
Storage: SSD NVMe Western Digital SN750 1TB
Can someone help me?
