Hi,

I always see these entires(categories) shown in the device mangager on different Windows systems
•SCSI and RAID Host Controller
•IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
•SATA AHCI Controller
•AHCI Controller

Since I have had a look at my motherboard, I didn't see any parts called 'SCSI', RAID', nor even AHCI. All what I have seen a physically a hardware part is 'IDEs' and SATA sometimes in the modern computers.

Thus, I was wondering if 'SCSI and RAID Host Controller, and AHCI had been not concrete (physical) hardware parts, howeverr, they are abstract hardware parts(hardware software) . I am right or not?
So, what benefit are there from such things? I.e. How to install my HDD physically into 'SCSI Or RAID Or ACHI'. My HDD is always installed on 'IDE'

Could anyone at this splendid forum please be a little bit patient and detailed with me about these things?

Thank you so much indeed,
I really asked this questions in many forums, but they only told me that those all things are physical hardware.
And they didn't tell me more since they told those forums are Windows support issues, and not hardware support issues.
I really only know that IDE, SATA are connectors on motherboard since took apart my desktop PCs, and I didn't see other than SATA, IDE connectors. I know very well how to use IDE, and SATA connectors.
However, I don't know those other things at all.
So could you kindly let me know how to use these things below at least with illustration steps, or even screen shots to let me know if they are abstract or concrete :

•SCSI and RAID Host Controller

ATA/ATAPI Controller

•AHCI Controller

Do you mind telling me why you need to know this stuff? Just curious.

SCSI would be if you had drives connected to an SCSI port. I'm not sure about specifics. RAID (0, 1, 10) is a type of drive setup, which is explained in the Wikipedia article.

ATA/ATAPI is the interface through which drives are connected through the motherboard.

AHCI is a way of communication between the motherboard and the drive.

Thanks a lot,
I hear about these things, but I have never ever seen them at all. If someone told you there is a sea, and you never saw a sea, then what would your curiosity be? My curiosity would be to find a way to see that sea.
