[SOLVED] SD card or external SSD

I need to expand the storage on a 128GB 2015 Macbook Pro.

In terms of data transfer speed is it better to use a SDXC card in the Macbook's SD card slot or an SSD in an external USB hard drive enclosure?

In terms of cost, I can get more storage capacity with an external SSD placed in an enclosure.

I know that unfortunately the Macbook uses USB to communicate with its SD card slot.

I'm guessing then that only the fastest SD card would come close to an external SSD.

Thank you. Yes, I've just read that reliability is a huge problem with even the best SD cards. I guess it has to be an SSD then.

Have you thought about an internal ssd upgrade?

What is your specific Model?

I believe the 2015 have an M.2 NVMe – PCIe 3.1 x4

You can buy a new one, clone your drive with superduper, then put the new drive in your MacBook and put the 128gb in an external case.
