I had two screen pics to attach, but I don't see where I can do this. I know it's been a minute since I've posted here, but I'm only seeing a plain window without formatting tools. If I'm missing the obvious, please clue me in. So anyway.....
Specificity seems to be the order of the day, so please bear with me as I try again.
I have a Chuwi Hi10 Pro dual OS tablet. Previously, I used a Chuwi Hi8, but I needed something a bit larger and this new tablet has twice the RAM/ROM as my original one did. I don't recall, however, having this same issue ever with the smaller tablet. I used a micro SD card for storage for Windows as well as Android and both worked well together on the old tablet.
The problem I'm having now is with the SD card working for Windows, but when I switch over to Android, it wants me to format the SD card before it will mount it. I've tried several times (in several different ways) to make BOTH Windows AND Android work from their perspective positions, but I've failed miserably. As mentioned in my original post, I've tried:
1. Using the SD card for storage (I know the difference between folders from one OS to the other).
2. I decided to use the card for new folder locations, so I next tried partitioning the card as NTFS & exFAT.
3. Tried re-partitioning Android as FAT32, even though Windows doesn't like it for larger partitions.
4. Performed a factory reset that included cleaning both the C drive as well as the card (it's D and E drives).
5. Tried the SD card in different places to test if the card itself was to blame (a brand new SD card, BTW):
a. Tried card in USB card reader in new tablet and it worked fine (both OS recognized card).
b. Tried card in USB card reader in different dual OS tablet and it worked fine (both OK).
c. Tried card in an SD card slot in Windows PC and it worked fine (both OK).
So why, even after I partitioned the card for specific use with Windows AND Android, does Android want me to format the SD card it “found” before it will mount the card so I can use it for storage there? Rethinking now of everything I tried, I wonder if running a partitioning program from Android side, it would recognize the card FIRST, before Windows and before Android has a chance to decide it doesn't like something about the card for whatever reason? I don't know. I'm not even sure a partition manager would work on Android (as a stand-alone program) in a similar manner as Windows did. I know if I go into boot manager and, say, set it to boot up USB drive first, I could use a program like Gparted, for example, but trying to catch the BIOS from a tablet with a multi-port hub with the USB connected as well as a mouse and/or attached keyboard (at the very least) and let's not forget to plug the tablet in while I worked to guarantee plenty of power AND remembering to change tablet's settings to not go to sleep or otherwise shut down during the procedure, well....it all got to be a bit much for me. That's why I changed tact and used Windows for partitioning.
I've attached a screen pic of explorer from the view from Windows and, hopefully, one from the Android view. Any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Without knowing any unforeseen circumstances, I plan on NOT ever having to remove the SD card as I've moved my major folders' locations to the card using Windows and as for Android, would be using the card there for generic storage purposes. If you need more info, please let me know and I'll be more than happy to provide any info that can help further.
Thanks so much....
