I'm having trouble deciding between two Seagate 2TB hard drives because of the complete lack of benchmarks. The parts in question are the ST2000DM006 and the ST2000DM008.

Now, to some, the ST2000DM008 may be an obvious winner, I mean, according to the Seagate spreadsheet it has 4 times the cache, 256mb, same RPM, slightly higher write speed, 220 vs 210 as well as lower power consumption. However, this sounds too good to be true, given that they're both at the same price, which made me do some research with no good results other than this comparison.

According to the comparison, the newer version seems to be worse at 4k writing/4k mixed, so I came here to ask for your opinion. Do you guys have any experience with both of these to give me some insight ? What should I do ?

Thank you for your time reading and writing an answer.

I wouldn't touch either of those drives with a 10-foot pole. Way too many of them showing up here for data recovery. Seagate quality is crap these days. I know, I know years ago they were great, but now they really suck.

Buy Toshiba or HGST instead and dump Seagate. Trust me, you'll regret it later on.

When you're only one person rubbishing an established manufacturer, you could at least use proper English terminology for your criticisms.
