Seagate 2TB in PIO mode

Got my 2tb sata hard drive 5 months ago and was working perfectly till then, now everytime I acces the drive partition, I hear a beep sound from the mobo and the transfer rate drops to 5mb/s and less. so I look up the device manager and found out the transfer mode set to PIO mode, uninstalling and reinstalling doesn't help cos it automatically reset to PIO mode again. I took out the hard drive and fit in an external hd casing and it performs normal. my question : is my hard drive failing or is my smps failing? system config : core2duo E7500, asus p5g41tm-lx, 1tb sata hitachi + 2tb sata seagate, 2gb x 2 ddr3 corsair value ram, 600w gms pro smps, Ati6850hd graphic, 2 optical drive.

You didn't mention your OS. Try uninstalling the driver from the device manager and reboot to reset to DMA. Try changing your sata/ide cable. Also, get speedfan, hdtune, or some other utility that can read the SMART status of the drive. Dropping to PIO mode is usually due to CRC errors.
