Seagate 500GB Freeagent external HD doesn't start up

My Freeagent Desktop external hard drive doesn't start up. I hear clicking initially then it spins up slowly and has an intermittent cut off but it never starts up. Can anyone help? Thanks

Hi there Darwin22,

Sometimes beeping in external drives could bean faulty cable. So, it may be a good idea to connect the drive with a different USB cable to a different port.
If the issue persists, then I guess there is either something wrong with the enclosure or the drive itself. In this case, and if the drive is still under warranty, I would advise you to contact the drive's manufacturer and eventually RMA it.
In case you need the data stored on it, you may need to contact a data recovery company(as you will most probably not be able to access it with software tools).
