I have TWO Seagate ST3000DM001 hard drives on my desktop. Or should I say, had... About 2 weeks ago, one threw up it's electronic arms and started puking bad sectors. Tried Seatools, and it wouldn't even find the drive.
Ran CHKDSK and it found a few hundred bad sectors. Took 'em out and used the drive for a backup. Within 24 hours it was having errors again, and another chkdsk showed more bad sectors... Pulled it out of service and replaced it with a different drive...
Went out looking for information on these and found Backblaze... 32% mortality rate by March, 2015. Oh.
Two days ago, the OTHER Seagate ST3000DM001 started having problems. Chkdsk (from Windows this time) eventually "repaired" it. I figure it's on its way to the hard drive graveyard too.
Unfortunately, BOTH these drives were already replaced in June and July of 2014, so Seagate considers them out of warranty - apparently the replacements are only covered for a year.
Even tried calling in since I've two of 'em that are dying, and figured Seagate has to be aware of the problem (presuming Backblaze isn't telling some kind of major whopper), but support wasn't interested in the problem...
So, add me to the list of Seagate customers with dying 3TB drives.
