Seagate - Difference between these two harddrive?

I bought a Seagate Barracuda model ST1000DM010 on Newegg. It was only 1TB so I decided to upgrade to 2TB but instead of waiting on Newegg I bought my new harddrive from a local computer store.

It wasn't until I got home that I actually noticed it was the Desktop version model ST2000DM001.

What is the difference between these two models? Is the desktop version slower?

@JamesSneed (sorry I don't know how to reply on mobile version) where did you get that info? The link I posted seems wrong. They list it under Barracuda but it's Desktop. I can't even find the rotational speed on the box or in the manual. How can I tell if it's 7200?

From the Staples description:

Barracuda 3.5-inch SATA 2TB Retail Kit
Internal Hard Drive Rotational Speed 7200 RPM

Not sure what you mean by "the desktop version", the laptop version is very different in size (smaller).

The difference between what you bought and the "Barracuda" is that yours is the older model. Same specs, same everything...except the name. They changed how they now name their drives and so the new models of your drive carry the barracuda name. It's not worth it to them to try to recall the drives with the old labels and relabel them. So they just let retailers sell off the stock and ship them the new stuff with the new labels.

Notice in this listing on Newegg that is say the Barracuda is the new version:
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148834

They are both 3.5" desktop drives.

Yeah but what I'm saying is I don't know reliable that description is. I have both the newegg Barracuda and the staple Desktop one. The newegg one is clearly labeled Barracuda while the staples one is clearly labeled Desktop...

Have you opened the box?
Have you read the documentation?
Have you plugged it in and opened a drive diagnostic utility to read the RPM?

It is a 7200 RPM drive.

If you didn't trust what Staples was selling you, why did you give them money?

I opened the box and read the documentation and I can't find the rotational speed anywhere. I called earlier in the day and asked if they had any 2TB Barracuda, the fella told me he did and put on aside. I bought it without thinking and when I got home I noticed the differenced between the newegg one and this one. I haven't actually opened it yet in case I have to return it. I just don't want a 5900 drive and I can't find anywhere besides their site that says this is a 7200 drive

The 'difference' between the 'Barracuda' name and the "Desktop" on the box at Staples is marketing.
They have probably determined that the word Desktop works better at Staples.

Yes, they go into that much detail with marketing and labels and different retail channels.

They only way to know is to plug it in and test it.
