[SOLVED] Seagate display wrong HDD

Seahawk is one of Seagates NAS brands so I wouldn't say it's a fraud exactly, just probably mislabeled or misread by HDD sentinel. Try another program like crystaldisk info or hwinfo, it probably just has the wrong ID. If it functions normally speed wise and has the 2TB you paid for you should be fine.

Though if you're still worried I'd just call seagate and figure it out with them. Perhaps it is a fake and they've dealt with this before.

4GB 5/5 test crystaldisk mark :
Seahawk 170/170 MB/s
Barracuda 180+/180+ MB/s

And actually, seahawk is 5$ cheaper than barracuda 2tb. i'm bought it on shopee, seller already said he will send another one. Most of my HDDs bought from him anyway :)

Seagate have HIGH RAW READ/SEEK ERROR RATE but is normal, no bad sector. My 4TB Seagate barracuda - 3.63TB (FREE 10-50GB)

But sometime it too slow

and Sometime it just unmout itself and remount

Well if they accepted the return then problem solved, eh?

Yeah I moved away from HDD's because of their slow random small data reads and writes. Still need them for my servers but for my personal computers I have all SSD's.

As for the unmounting, maybe bad SATA cable? Or bad insert of cable? Don't know.

i'm using it with caddy bay ORICO 1106SS.

SSD is for performance but HDD is for storage cuz price. 500GB-1TB SSD M2 is enough

Might be due to the caddy. Not all of them pass all of the correct data back to the OS.
Many pp said, should let hdd (SEAGATE) rest in 5-10min and have at least 5-10% storage free, i dont know if they right about it or....

The slow/unmount problem only appear once hardisk almost run out of free space.

test with seagate seatools it should read the real name of it .
no need and i'm forgot it, one 2tb barracude already mounted so if HDD sentinel displayed wrong, i will know. this is first time, really confused 😀

I think the drive is a fake. In fact it may not even be a Skyhawk.

Could we see the PCB? Hopefully the PCB part number will point to the real model.

Edit:

Yep, it's a fake. See the mistakes on the label. Also the writing appears slanted.

"Seagate singapre"
"Product of Thalland" ???

The product manual states that the ST2000DM006 is a standard model (ie not a self-encrypting HDD), but there is a 32-byte PSID on the label. A PSID is only required for self-encrypting drives, not standard models.

Skyhawk product manual (ST2000VX008):

Your drive could be an ST2000DM001:
https://www.hdd-parts.com/16061711.html

Here is an ST2000VX008 PCB with a different part number, but similar layout:
https://www.hddzone.com/st2000vx008-seagate-pcb-100724095-p-3156.html

The same PCB is also used in the ST2000DM001 model:

i feel like they are ref hdd, that's why label always look so bad and QR code always same.

received new hdd but label are same (singapre,thalland,...), only S/N is different and S/N printed on label is not matched with S/N in the software. But this time, it displayed Barracuda, not skyhawk

Thank for all help :)

Label is definitely fake. Plus you can see, there's another label under it.

This is, how label should look (without grammatical errors)

yep, all information on label must matched with HDD (using software to check)

Another buyer bought 4tb from him after several months : View: https://imgur.com/a/AZaQaGN

and mine, first one bought from him : View: https://imgur.com/a/8qUJ8wI
,

on shopee, in item description sector : he said
"NEW 100%, say no to Refurbished"

and when i'm chat with him :
he said, "I assured that's 100% new, not fake, only ref" , feel like he mixing both factory new and ref product, lower ref product price and raised factory new price to make buyer buy cheaper one.

8x 2TB barracuda have fake label
1x 4TB have real label, so from now, i'll be careful when buy anything from him.

Can seller reset firmware to reset smart data too ?

Thank :)

Yes.

Older models allow access to the firmware via a terminal port, so anyone can reset the SMART attributes using free tools, but in newer models the terminal is locked. It's still possible to reset the SMART data in newer models, but it requires professional tools, most of which are expensive. These tools bypass the terminal lock with ROM patches (the ROM is the firmware chip on the PCB).
