Seagate Momentus 5400.5 donor drive question

I have a Seagate Momentus 5400.5 320gb hard disk. I want to buy a donor drive from ebay as the drive does not currently work and I think it may be something on the PCB.

My question is does anyone know could I buy any hard disk of the 5400 range i.e. 5400.4 / 5400.6?

Or going by serial numbers is there any specific ones I could buy and would work? This drive is a ST9320320AS does anyone know what other drive numbers I could take the PCB from or even at a guess? Most guys on ebay list this so I could easily buy the right one if I know which one to get?

You want to match the part number of the pcb. Research first as you will likely need to swap the rom chip from the old board as well. There are some places that offer this service with the purchase of a new board from them.

If the drive spins up, then the problem is unlikely to be PCB related.

Seagate drives have a serial diagnostic port. The terminal log will give you an indication of what is wrong.

You were correct, I tried another PCB and it made no difference.

How do I access this terminal log you talk about below?
