Hello,
external harddrive,seagate1.5 works on windows xp, but does not on window 7 I hear that it goes in but does not show up to open

Check in manage/storage/disk management!

Look in device manager with the drive plugged in and check for any yellow plings against any USB device. If there are delete that device, remove the USB device and refit.
