Search Command does't work right.

I can't get Windows Explorer to work the way it should. I am looking at the
book Windows XP INSIDE/OUT. On page 443 (Chapter 12) it says that
I should Choose 'Search from thr Strart Menu' then click 'Change Prefer-
ences'. I don't see anything that says 'Change Preferences'.

This is only a fraction of the problems that I am encountering. All through
Chapter 12 it describes operations that should be performed, but can't for
reasons similar to the above. The problem seems to be related to the fact
that I am looking at a different display for the search screen than the one
shown in the book. The one that I am looking at has the single word
'Search' at the top of the Search Bar. The one that the book displays (Fig
12-10) has the two word phrase 'Search Companion' in this location. The
Search Bar shown in the book looks very different than the one that I am
currently looking at. I've spent about an hour trying to get my Search Bar
to look like the Bar shown in the book. But it doesn't work.

The figure shown in the book looks familiar to me. It is the one that I was
using to do searches with up until recently. Then things seemed to change.
I hadn't noticed the change up to the the time I starated reading the book.

Hi

You need to click on Search>For Files or Folders... Then in the left hand
column you should see 'Change Preferences'. Are you trying to start the
Indexing Service?

I don't see any command that says "Search>For Files and Folders". Clicking
the "Switch" word at the top of the 'Search Bar' does nothing.

No, I am not trying to initiate the indexing service (Not Yet Anyway). I am
just trying to learn from the book.
