Would love to have a shortcut to the search function, as it appears on the
Start menu, on my Quick Launch. Any one know how this could be
accomplished?

From the Start Menu, drag the Search icon to your QL.

Won't drag. & I have drag & drop enabled in Start Menu properties...

Drag it to the Desktop and drop it there. Then drag it to the QL from the
Desktop.

As Ronnie said. If that does not help, type these commands from Start, Run.
Reboot

regsvr32 ole32
regsvr32 /i shell32
