Second computer won't connect to wireless networdk

Hello, I am using a linksys wrt54G router, and two laptops. One,a gateway xp machine, connects wirelessly fine. The second one will not get internet wirelessly, only with the hard cable. Surprisingly enough, when the hard cable is wired, the wireless connection icon shows it is working and with internet, but when the cable is pulled, the internet leaves the wireless connection. The troubled machine is an acer windows 7 machine. Any suggestions?

Check to see if the wireless card in the notebook needs a driver update.. If you can find out the make of the wireless card (it could be intel), go to intel's website and download the new driver.
