Hello,

I have an old HDD (samsung 103UJ) I would like to attach to my system. Unfortunately any way I plug it in to my mobo, it prevents my win 10 from booting, which is on its own dedicated SSD (850 EVO). I have an old OS on the samsung, win 7 or 10 I dont remember, I am pretty sure it is what it is causing the trouble. If I do not plug it in everything works like a charm.

What I tried:
- plugging it in a different mobo sata port
- running it on its own power supply line
- removing it from the bios boot priority list
- disableing / enabling fast boot

I just want the darn thing formatted so I can stick some music on it, I do not need any of the data on it. Unfortunately I cant get my os to boot so I can wipe it ... I doubt it is defect as it was tecnically sound as far as I know before removing it from the old system.

Solution
Well the old drive might very well be IDE, but your new system is most likely set to AHCI. But changing that would leave you locked out of w10, and w7 probably wouldn't boot either because the hardware is so different. You can get a basic USB3 HDD dock off of amazon for $30 or USB2 one for less than $20 like geofelt said.
