Second monitor is cutting out when playing certain games

So if I’m playing PUBG, Fortnite, or sometimes DayZ my secondary monitor (idling or with a webpage open) will start flickering black and then come back for a couple of minutes and keeps doing it until it completely cuts out, only when I close the game it will come back slowly, I’m unsure whether this will be my graphics card or monitor, I have switched the HDMI and that didn’t help, I have also updated my drivers. Only thing i think it could be is my monitor or my graphics card.
My build is an AMD FX 8320 with Palit 970 and MSI 970 mobo, 8gb ram.
Any advice will be appreciated

Your card might just keep being overloaded, might not be able to handle more than one monitor while having the load of a game.

It’s never been an issue until recently though, I’m torn between a new gpu or monitor as I can only really afford one at the minute, any tips on identifying the issue? I don’t have another monitor to test is my current predicament

Well do you really need two monitors though

Yeah, if I’m playing PUBG and I die but my teammates alive I’d rather like to watch a YouTube video or twitch stream without having to tab in and out of the game
