I'm looking to give my old pc to my girlfriend, and want a new budget rig, i have about 600-700 dollars to spend and i already have a 120gb SSD and i can cannibalize a HDD from somewhere or get one from a buddy looking for what i can get for the 600-700 range(i have OS, monitors, etc), also want to try and get most the parts through the same provider so shipping is easy. been doing a lot of research but this is a pretty competitive price, ive seen amd and intel builds i have no preference, i would just like to get a good gaming pc that can play 1080p at good frames. and i plan later to upgrade so if theres upgrade path or optionsthat'd be great. thanks again my first post!

The i3 will not bottleneck the 970 at 1080p. Also a z97 board so you can buy an overclockable i5 and a heatsink later.

Here is a build to consider. $25 over budget. I'd drop down to a R9 290 if you need to shave it off.

the problem with the fx series is you have to include a cooler to overclock in order to make the difference in performance. however, this adds to the total cost of the cpu if it wasn't already budgeted in. believe it or not, the i3 still performs almost as well as an i7 at equal clocks in most games (on avg). the real factor is the gpu. you'll notice the most difference from a better gpu that you can overclock to be even better when needed. since you have storage devices already, this budget can fit a gtx 970:

okay how does this look getting all parts from newegg, the i3 recommended are basically the same as pentium g3258. so ill get a g3258, and then down the road a month or two ill get a 4670k? i get a better motherboard this way? will i see more then 5 fps difference? I could always fit a cheap cooler in there and overclock the g3258?

you're going to need the overclock, the g3258 will be undesirable at stock speeds. it could probably work as a place holder if you are in fact getting a cpu upgrade in a very short time. in which case it makes little sense to spend $70 just to turn around and throw it away in a month.

I just have other things to budget around my pc at the moment, and some are more important, also after im done with the g3258 it could always go to my girlfriend cause this pc is running AMD A8-5600K Trinity Quad-Core 3.6GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) with a sapphire 260x, so she could get a new motherboard and run the g3258. reguardless I'll probably go with the i5 and a gtx 970, im just really looking at my options depending on how the situation changes! great suggestions and points guys.
