securing/updating windows xp

I know Microsoft ended support back in 2014 for windows xp but if I install windows xp pro sp2 will I still be able to use Microsoft update to get all the updates they put out before they cut support? and whats the best way to secure it? Is all I need some virus software? do I need a separate bug software and what about firewall? the primary use of this rig is for old computer games. the only internet i'd be using is for updates, downloading securities programs and maybe some very lite browsing if i happen to take the rig over to a friends

P.S i'm using an apple airport wireless router(encase that helps securities).

Mozilla is still supported under XP, chrome, explorer are not. There are free virusscanners- not all of them are actually protecting you. I'm not confident enough of any of the free ones to suggest one.
