If you're serious about the equipment, use of a proper Industrial Digital Camera is $3000 dollars with PTZ (Pelco PAN/TILT and ZOOM (PTZ) Camera is the best I've used, next is Philips and Ultrak), that will solve your long range shots but you would still need a Recording Unit like the product mentioned above.

Badge is right about going to independent installer as they my cost less than the big company but not much though as the price of equipment is pretty much fix but the labor. Make sure you're not being rip off as well.
