Security risks of an open database

I have a server of a multi-cloud multi-user aggregation app. The server maintains the metadata about files, users, clouds and provides an access control list mechanism to manage permissions on the files. What would it happen if we open that DB? I mean what kind of security risks it may have if anyone can read/write the DB (as in the blockchain).

Sounds like it would be the equivalent to taking the front door off your house and asking what the security risks of that are. It is only a matter of time before something bad happens.
