Followed the software loading and set up instructions
from the MS site.
1. When trying to send a fax while in AOL, fax goes into
outbox, does not send. Sign off AOL, fax in outbox will
then send.

2. Try to receive a fax, sender is getting busy signal.
Sender receives busy signal regardless if I'm on AOL or
not. I try the fax receive command, get error message "A
fax call could not be answered. Either the phone had
stopped ringing before the call could be answered or the
fax device is busy."

Certainly I should be able to send and receive faxes
while signed on to AOL, yes? Am I doind something wrong?

How was it you expected the fax program to use the phone line while you were
dialed up to AOL?

Well, that covers sending, what about receiving Mr. MVP?

Your assumption was that you should be able to send and receive while dialed
up to AOL is incorrect. You can't. They use the same phone line. If senders
get a busy signal, your modem has not relinquished control of that line.

Tried it again while not dialed up to AOL. Sent a fax
fine, someone tried to fax but did not even get a busy
this time, no response at all. Would the modem relinquish
control if not on AOL?

Hard to say at this point. The problem could be anywhere. The best way to
start unraveling this would be to make sure your automatic reception
settings for fax are correct and that the Fax Service startup type is set to
"Automatic." Then have someone try to send you a fax immediately after a
clean reboot.
