Hello I am working on building a server for a friend. How ever he wants a raid 5 with his OS on the raid. He doesn't have a raid controllers. So I am tryingbto figure out can you set up a Raid 5 while you install 2016.

You generally have to have a hardware controller to create the RAID5 before doing the OS install. I don't know of a way to build the RAID while doing an install.

You can't - that simple. You have this options:

• Install Windows server on a normal disk, a ssd is preferable.
• Then put 3+ HDD in addition, than those can be arranged as raid5 if they're are of same brand and model.
• Or get a raid controller if your friend demand raid 5 for the os also - for some reason.

Note - stay away of SMR hdd's if intended to use in raid set.
