So first off,

Hello fellow Tomhardware folks,

I would like to ask your opinions and help about this little question of mine.
So I am planning to make my room a game room (since I got a bigger room and I am not planning to go away in another 5 years or something).

So in short, I want to buy a small computer that connects, somehow, to my soundsystem and servers(Probaly through an always on remote desktop connection) Also I want to be able to Configure the switch through that computer and the accespoint(this should not be hard its just annoing) I know a few things about IT, and a few things about Computer building. ( all these connections would be through a virtual machine for security purposes if able)

For the computer, I was thinking about a 2nd generation Ryzen 5 cpu, because core count and pricing, and I was thinking of ddr3 ram, again pricing, only limitation would be the amount of total memory I would have, expandibility will be hard, but thats no problem. I have no clue what mother board I would use, I think I'll need 4 ram lanes, 2 pcie lanes (16x not required), mainly for the extra ethernet port card, and the soundcard.

I don't know if this is necesary, and I am sure there are easier ways, but this is a fun project I would like to start doing. (Also what would be a good switch, with configurable ports, atleast 12, I would love to have more, so that I can have LAN party's.

The Wired internet connection is 350 mbps, so thats no worry's.

Sorry for this long message, and if I sound demanding I'm sorry, I am just asking for opinions and recommendations.

Yours kindly,

A fellow IT'r

get the most and fastest DDR4 you can and make sure you are in Dual Channel mode. Need at least 2 matched sticks. still get a cpu with 16 pcie lanes.

also, you have no idea what pcie lanes actually are, and you are referring the the pcie slots on your mobo, one of which is an x16 slot I should hope.

Actually I know a bit(all those youtube videos are still good for something), I was indeed referring to the pcie lanes on the motherboard, what I meant was that maybe it would have been possible to get the prise down if i did smth like that, but thats probaly impossible.

I was going to aim for the Ryzen 2600, it has 20 pcie lanes available, 16 for an external gpu and 4 extra ports or smthing like that. (took this information straight out of https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/amd/ryzen_5/2600 here)
I was thinking about going for a A320 AM4 motherboard or a X370 motherboard, depending what I can get my hands on.

I know that AMD is wet for the highest mhz RAM, but what would be the "lowest" I should go?

Depends, I can get a budget from anywhere up to 800$ I would say, I have a case, I don't have memory, I don't have a CPU (aiming for the Ryzen 2400) I don't have a motherboard (aiming for the A320 or X370 depending on where my budget lands) I have 2 1tb hdd, I don't have a ssd and i don't have ram (questioning about what mhz I should go.
