I need advice in how to build a new system using an SSD for the OS, and having HDD in a RAID configuration, as the BIOS will only allow it to be set to AHCI (For the SSD), or Raid, not both. I have an ASUS Z87-PLUS (LGA1150) motherboard, the documentation seems to say it does not support both. Thanks for any suggestions

Many mainboards have additional third party sata controllers in addition to Intel. They are independently set in the bios. You can set the Intel controller to ahci and the other controller to raid.

Thank you for your suggestion, I have an ASUS Z87-PLUS motherboard, which seems to say it does not support both. Are there any other options, or did I read their documentation wrong? Thanks

Your board supports 6 Intel sata ports and 2 ASmedia sata ports. Unfortunately it seems ASmedia ports do not support raid configurations. And it is not a good idea to use the ssd boot disk to any port other than Intel.

Thank you for your suggestion, I will set the BIOS to Raid, set up the OS on the SSD 1st, then add the HDD's for my Raid Array. Question, I see in other threads for the SSD they mention "disabling the paging file, system protection,Turn off indexing,,Disable Reliability Monitor Etc... Is this correct? I have Win 7 Prof, or Win8 Pro, it seems that Win 7's library structure maybe better suited for my Hybrid install, Want to get it right the 1st time. Thanks for any help, sorry for the long post.
