Set up wifi without a modem

I was wondering is there a way to set up wifi without using a modem. Could i set it up by connecting it to my laptop somehow to transmit the wifi to my desktop or vice versa. Any help would be appreciated.

I think you are looking at an ad-hoc solution (direct computer to computer via wireless adapters). Look at the manual(s) which came with the wireless adapters (or Google) for how to.


If in fact you are trying to share an internet connection the simplest way is to look at Windows Internet Connection Sharing (see Windows Help).

This is usually done via cable between the ethernet ports of the two machines, with one of the machines connected to the internet via ethernet or wireless.
