I am a non-techie trying to set up a new (to me) HP mini. Helpful friends are offering advice but even though I have a DisplayPort cable connecting my CPU and my monitor, the monitor doesn't recognize it. Instead, it will work on DVI-D setting only. Neither my friends nor I can figure out how to set the system to DisplayPort. The monitor has a 24+1 pin port and the CPU has 2 DisplayPort sockets. One seems to be able to handle multiple types of video, and the other seems to be the default DisplayPort. I am connected to the default port but must change the monitor video IN to DVI-D to get a display. I don't have the technical savvy to understand any of this, but I can follow instructions if one of you kind readers can help me out. Thanks.

On my Dell 27" monitors in the User manual, it states to "Use the Input Source menu to select between different video inputs that are connected to your monitor."
That menu shows HDMI1, HDMI2, Auto Select.

On my Dell 23" monitors User Manual, it states the same thing but shows, because there are different connections available, VGA, DVI-D, DisplayPort.

You get to these selections by using the menu on the monitor itself.
Check with the User Manual for that monitor, then go to "Contents > Troubleshooting > Common Problems". Once there, look for something in the "No Video/Power" and look for "Input Source Select" highlighted in blue.

Thanks to hotaru.hino, ohio_buckeye, and Blackink for your replies. I am unable to test the new cable as my old computer has no DisplayPort input available. Dell monitor model U2713HMt. I have discovered the input selection on the Dell and tried them all. Each time the monitor displayed the message "no INPUT cable" except for DVI-D which it did accept and the display activated. Sorry, I have no idea about the video card.
