Question Setting up a router to be an access point.

So, context: In my college dorm we have a spare room that we turned into a rec room. The wifi in this room is crappy though. However, we have ethernet ports that we can connect to and an old Actiontec C1000A router. How would I set it up to act like a wifi access point to connect via the ethernet port? (Hierarchy: Ethernet port > AP > Wifi > Users)

Wifi router = a ethernet switch with wireless access + wan port routing.

When a WAN port is not uplinked to another device and you link one of its LAN ports to another device, it's in AP mode, since there is no data can be routed to the WAN port.

You have to turn off it's DHCP server though.

It's 2.4GHz N only, so 65-72Mbps per antenna @ 20MHz wide. We only don't know if that's N150 or N300

For your device, under "Advanced Setup" and DHCP settings, set the DHCP server state to disable. May as well also go into the Security Settings to disable NAT but there doesn't look to be any setting which would allow you to use the WAN port as another LAN port. So only use the LAN ports.
