Hello I am trying to set up an IP camera. I have connected it to my local switch right by me to set up the camera and it works fine. When I try to connect it to another switch within the building it doesn't work even though I set entered the DNS address, the camera address, etc. What am I doing wrong?

Solution

There is a high probability of this being a subnet issue.

If this is a business network, you should consult with your IT professionals.

If this is a residential network, you may have more difficulty trying to determine where exactly the problem is located.

You should find the IP address of a working device attached to the problem switch to help determine an IP subnetting problem.
The switch in the building might not have connection, you might wanna check that. Also, make sure the building's internet isn't blocking it. That might be a big issue.

Might need to provide more information about this network. Where is this building network switch located with respect to your local switch? Are there any routers between the two? Are they located on different subnets?

My main goal is for anyone to view this camera locally on the network.

I have several POE switches placed all over our facility that is linked to the same network. We run internet, domain, and VOIP phones through the switches. It should be plug and play like everything else.

Not sure if you are stating that you have set a static IP address on this camera, or that you are trying to access via a known IP address. Are you able to ping the given address?

I have set a static IP for this camera and I can only access it and ping it when it is connected to my switch next to me. When I connect it to another switch in the building that's on the same network I can't see it anymore.
