I have an external room in my back garden that I need internet for. I need to have a strong wireless connection and multiple ethernet ports. Is it possible to have a switch connected to my modem and 2 routers plugged into it. 1 router in the gaming room and one in the house. If so how would I go about it? Would they both still provide the same speeds as the single one did before?
I have a BT Homehub 3, I would get another to put in the external room.
I also have a BT Openreach Fibre Modem (CP17)
What would be a good switch to use?
Thank you.

Solution
This is over-complicating things. This is an easier way of doing everything:

1. Leave your router where it is in the house.
2. Put your switch in the outside room.
3. Run a long ethernet cable from the switch to the router and connect them.
4. For Wi-Fi access in the outside room, buy an access point and plug it into an ethernet port on your switch (therefore giving you a Wi-Fi connection in your outside room)

You can now use the multiple ethernet ports on the switch to connect anything to your network and get internet access on all of the connected devices. You can also connect your Wi-Fi enabled devices to the access point.

Notes: Make sure that the switch is gigabit (it will be labelled 10/100/1000). Also make sure that you buy...
you would be better off having the following
home hub-> long ethernet cable to game room->wireless repeater in game room and use the ethernet ports from the repeater in the gaming room.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. That would be a lot easier thank you.

Thank you, I really appreciate it. I will be doing this, it only just came up which is why the other was voted best answer. But thank you I really appreciate this.

xD So you do my one but vote the other one better because it is first?! Thats hella funny, but ok. Whatever you think is good. And good luck with your gaming room, I hope you'll enjoy it!
