Setting Up Static IP Addresses

Guys,

I've installed VMWare Workstatation and have installed Windows Server 2008R2 onto this. I want to setup a static IP address,subnet mask and default gatway on my VM however when i set the bellow values and click OK in TCP/IP V4 i get an error 'Warning - Default gateway is not the same network segment (subnet) that is defined by the IP address and subnet mask. Do you want to save this configuration'. Now i'm very new to TCP/IP addressing but have been reading this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/164015) to atleast understand some basics so please bear with me if i do make any mistakes.

IP Address: 192.168.114.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Can somebody guide me on how to set the correct values as i said before, i'm quite new to this as this is a personal project i'm doing. In addition, would i need to directly login to my router and set the static ip address?

I never really use VM, but I believe if the VM's network is set to Bridged, the router should see it as it's own device, you should then be able to reserve an IP address for the VM on your router, which is acting as your DHCP server.

The VM should then have a static IP on your LAN.
