Hi, I recently moved to a college residence where wifi is not provided and we have to use ethernet for our computers. I finally got sick of this and got a wireless router so I can use my phone too. I bought a Netgear N300 router.

When I tried to set this up everything turned on fine, but when I go to configure it on my laptop or phone it can't find an internet connection. I have tried a few times, turning it on and off and unplugging it from the ethernet port on the wall. Any Ideas what I can do?

Try connecting it from the Ethernet that's coming out of the wall. Then plug it in let it power on and make sure all the lights on your router are correctly lit. If so then search for the wireless connection. If you cannot find one try connecting another Ethernet line directly out from the router to your pc and open up network and sharing center and see if you get any internet that way

Thanks for the help, but that's what I have been doing and with no success. Now when my computer is connected to the router wirelessly it shows that there is internet access even though there isn't. The problem is between the router and the internet, not the computer and the router.

I see. Sorry but the best way to find out what's causing the problem sometimes is usually by first eliminating the simplest answers. If it is between the internet and router its very possible that the internet is set up to where it cant have any switches, routers ect... I don't suppose you happen to know anyone else in the dorm that has tried setting up a router in the past?
