Hello, I've got a quad 9550. I have 4 gb ram. Yet under intial size (MB) it says: "2046"

I am using cs4 & need as much RAM as possible:

1) How do I get xp to recognize 4gb (4092 MB)?
2) How do I find out what type of ram is on my PC? Device Manager doesn't give me this info.
3) Would 64 bit platform benefit me with Premiere pro?

x64 bit allow you to use more amount of memory but there're certain memory limitations according os editions

Here's link

A 32-bit operating system will utilize no more than 3.5GB of RAM, no matter how much is installed, so if you need more than that you should move up to a 64-bit OS. I believe there is a 64-bit version of XP, but you'd be better off going with Win7 for the price.

Regarding the discrepancy of why your system only sees 2GB of the 3.5 it should, perhaps the latency is different and clashing. I'm guessing it had 2GB installed before and you tried to double it and didn't see a change. Did you go and buy RAM without checking what you had in your system first? Usually on the RAM there is some sticker that will say speed or even part number to use for adding more.

That statement made absolutely no sense.

As I said before, if you have 4GB of compatible RAM installed, or any amount, a 32-bit OS will see 3.5GB.
My previous system was 32-bit XP, but I only installed 3.5GB because I knew that's the max that XP would see. He said his system only sees 2GB but he has 4GB installed and he's asking how to make XP recognize all of the installed RAM. It will see 3.5GB max, but he has a problem with the RAM he added since it only sees 2GB.

When i had xp x32 mine shows 2.91 after i reinstalled xp x32 i got 3.1 that's the reason it doesn't matter to show only 3.5GB
it'll be less also
