Hi Everyone

I am able to purchase the EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF quite cheaply with the following specs:

- Intel Core i5-4570 3.2G 6M HD 4600 CPU
- 8GB DDR3-1600 DIMM (2x4GB) RAM
- 1TB 7200 RPM 3.5 HDD
- NVIDIA NVS 310 x16

I was hoping I could get some advice on finding a good gaming Graphics Card for this.

From what I understand it only has a 240watt PSU.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for your help.

the sums i'm thinking is that the cpu takes 90W (rounded a bit), the GPU 75W, leaving 75W for HDD/SSD, mobo fans etc. It'll be really tight, but if it's a good 240W PSU then you'll be fine, i.e. 20Amps on 12V. If you are concerned then underclock the cpu, and undervolt it a bit, i.e. make it behave more like a T series processor, that'll give you another 20W of headroom conservatory estimate. I can't emphasis enough, it'll be tight and it has to be a good PSU, choose green HDD's (1 off preferably) or an SSD, choose few and low power fans, I wouldn't run it for more than 18-24months, as the PSU will degrade over time and you have very little headroom, there may be NO warning when it goes. If you can get a 300W PSU or better (again good...

If you can get a 300W PSU or better (again good quality) then it'll last for years and you can be more relaxed.

For reference the 750ti is faster than the GXT580, which is amazing on that much power.

Hey Guys

Thank you for all your replies and all so quickly!

You are all awesome!

I have some HP Elite 8000 SFF but I don't think the PSU on them is any bigger and they may have changed the design of the case.

Thanks again :).

I have a EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF with the Core i7-4770, which I purchase for my daughter. I upgraded it with a Gigabyte N75TOC-2GL which is a 2Gb GTX 750 Ti (low profile) and added 32Gb of RAM, a 512Gb SSD and 2Tb hard drive. She has a 28' 4k monitor and now games on that with Skyrim at 4k with moderate graphics setting quite happily.

As of today it has been up and running for 48 hrs without problem. Need to find the special HP screws for the SSD mount though.

Hi Pofarrell!

Could I query:

  • Firstly, is the machine still running well for you/your daughter?
Secondly, and purely out of curiousity, could you tell me what model HDD, SSD and RAM you went for?

Thanks!

G

An old thread, but I'm hoping you're still watching. I'm tinkering with the same machine and thinking about options for a graphics card. You didn't say if you upgraded the PSU for the Gigabyte N75TOC-2GL. From my own research online, it sounds like the card would run just fine with the 240W that the machine ships with but it would be nice to have someone confirm it with their own experience.

I'm in the same boat. I know it haven't been long but did you go along with the upgrade?
