Shadow of Mordor running laggy and slow on my pc

My specs are:
980TI
16 gig ram
I7-6600K 4.00 ghz

The game runs choppy and slow. Even putting the settings on low and it still runs bad. Im not sure why or what I can do to fix it.

Does the game run for ssd or hdd?
Try turning off hyperthreading from the bios,more resources for the cores that are left plus most games don't utilize more then 4 cores anyway.

SoM does crush; my 2600k/770 GTX struggles like nothing else on medium/high, but your setup should be able to handle high/ultra without too many issues, albeit with hiccups in performance here or there.

Really? I'm able to play on high (due to vram, no ultra) 70+ fps and haven't got a single crash yet, on my GTX 950. Have you downloaded the latest drivers? Have you tried optimizing it with GeForce Experience?

It runs fine on my i3-4130 750ti system, so your hardware isn't the problem.

If you have graphics or driver issues, one of the most common fixes is a clean uninstall and removal of your graphics drivers.

To uninstall your drivers, first download and run Display Driver Uninstaller, and follow it's recommendations of booting into safe mode and ect.

You'll download a compressed file called "[Guru3D.com]-DDU.zip"
Right click and choose extract.
Go into the folder and run the DDU v##.##.exe
This will extract more files to this folder.
Run Display Driver Uninstaller.exe
Choose Yes when it asks you to boot into SafeMode.
After you've rebooted into safe mode.
When DDU comes up, if it hasn't selected your GPU manufacturer (Nvidia/AMD/Intel) then choose it from the drop down list
Press the Clean and Restart option
If a window comes up asking to disable the Windows automatic installation of display drivers click yes.

After (or before removing the old drivers, just put the new ones on the desktop or somewhere handy) rebooting back into Windows, manually download the latest drivers from Nvidia or AMD, don't use auto detect, choose you GPU model and OS from the drop down lists.

The game runs on SSD. Ive tried optimizing as well as auto config the settings and its the same. Runs slow, music/sound stutters/skips. Im not sure what the issue is

Lets back up a step: Do any other games have issues. Because it almost sounds like you aren't running off the dedicated GPU, or it's not receiving enough power.

The only other game ive tried for a little while is Dark Souls 3. Only played it for maybe 30 minutes and it seems to be okay.

Ive played diablo 3 and the expansion. The game runs smooth. I downloaded fraps and did a bench mark for Shadow Of Mordor. It gave me the following:
Average FPS 9.39
Max FPS 31.51
Min FPS 5.90.
