My old, bulky CRT monitor has started randomly re-sizing the screen size (mostly the horizontal) 3-5x/hour. So I am shopping for a flat-panel. Shocking though this may be to some of you, I do NOT want a widescreen. I do lots of word-processing and Internet research, and would really prefer more VERTICAL space, but I doubt that's possible.

So, for my shopping purposes, is there a term used to designate a monitor that is not widescreen? So far, I have found no way to narrow my searches to exclude widescreens, and even after opening an entry for an item that is not designated as widescreen, I often find that it is when I get to the specs.

In new or refurbished, the best-looking choice I've found so far is the Dell Ultrasharp 1905FP, available at http://www.accurateit.com/details.asp?iid=679 or maybe for a little less on ebay. Any experience with that one?

All advice appreciated. Thanks.

You should try something called "Google". Below is a simple search result:

Notice the many results both "official" and user opinions.

Personally I am not a fan of "refurbished" hardware since they generally come with a short warranty, but if the price is right.....

Well, an excellent monitor if you can afford it is the Dell Ultrasharp 2007FP

It seems expensive compared to most because it does not use a TN panel, and because of that, it has a significantly improved color and general appearance over most panels. It's also not widescreen, and can even be rotated 90 degrees for a portrait orientation, for even more vertical space. The 1600x1200 resolution is quite nice too. It even has a built in USB hub.
