Question Short Circuit PSU

I had took my computer up to the repair shop to see why it wouldn't post, and I was told that it would not post because the cpu was now down entirely, so they pushed it down more and it posted. However, a few hours later they called me and told me that my PSU was a bad PSU and that the likely cause was that since the CPU was not down all the way, the power fed to it went back to the power supply and short circuited it. Am I getting fed bs or is this a legitimate cause of PSU damage?

The power supply might be bad but what they said was BS.

If it powered up with more tension on the CPU then why are they now saying bad power supply?

I'm absolutely clueless man.

When I brought my PC in, the power supply functioned just fine, all my fans were spinning with their RGB, my GPU had its RGB on, and so did my AIO Screen. So the power was functioning fine. They then pushed my CPU further day (this is what they told me) and the computer posted but one of the Ram sticks was not showing RGB so they installed windows, but then they said that the power supply short circuited and needs to be replaced. They wanted me to replace the power supply and bring it up to them for them to put the PSU in so that my "warranty" with them isnt voided. I chose to just take the whole computer back with me and get a new PSU and plug everything in. I asked them if they had any spare power supplies at a PC Repair Shop that builds Computers as well, and they told me that they didn't have any 1000w spare power supplies which I thought was suspect, but then I asked them why didn't they install windows and try to figure out the ram issue using my integrated graphics and a lower wattage PSU, and they told me because they couldn't test everything properly.

Classic story of PC repair shops wanting more money out of you!
3 years ago I bought a 2nd hand R9 380 4gb and needed a PSU so i went to my local PC repair shop to buy a good PSU from them to go with the card( it was some 10euro chinese PSU, that i paid 30euro for,as per usual), asked them to install it. They said it ran fine, next day I get a call that I need to buy some kind of adapters and that it wouldn't work without them. It was a SATA to PCie 6+2 (8) pin connector ( fire hazard btw) since the psu didnt have any PCIe connectors on it. Ofcourse, it was all their plan, so that I would spend money on both the PSU and the adapters.. but back to the thread, so your system works now? Can you list your PC specs? Alongside your current issue with the PC, if there is any.
They will literally say anything just to squeeze as much money as they can from you...

Well, according to them the computer has windows loaded on it, and it also posts according to them when there's a good power supply. I didn't test the PSU when I got IT back since I assumed it might have just gone bad and I don't want to risk a bad PSU damaging other components, so I'm just going to get it replaced with Corsair and then see if the computer works then. So as of right now, I'm without power supply but once I get them one in a couple of days, I'll be able to test it.
