Should CPU get this hot?

Hi there, I'll start out with saying I've recently built a brand new pc with an AMD FX 8350 at 4GHz so not OC at the moment. I previously had problems with the stock fan it came with as it made a racket when under load, so I then bought a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO to address this problem and to my delight it is now very quiet, however, when running on WoW on Ultra settings should I really be getting around 70 degrees with an aftermarket cooler on? I mean I would expect that with a stock CPU cooler but with an aftermarket? It seems too high to me.

62 is the max you should be at , can throttle around 70 and shut down.

Okay, what do you think is causing this abnormally high temperature?

Could be a faulty fan, or the CPU, or in worst case, both. Actually I've seen cpus running on nearly 80C in hot places, where do you live?

Admittedly it is a rather hot day today but I live in the UK so its not exactly scorching hot haha

Try replacing the thermal paste, there could be poor contact between the cooler and the CPU.

Temps should range between 45-56 ºC at least that is what I have seen from different users on Overclockers, if your getting over that then I would consider reapplying a better quality Thermal Compound and look at how you got the Cooler fan or Fans Pointed. Are you Pushing toward the Rear Case Fan? If you have two fans are the both pushing the same way, If you have only one fan consider adding another to the Cooler.

I only have the option of adding one fan to the case as its a Cooler Master Silencio so it has no roof panels for any case fans there and only 1 extra slot at the front. I could possibly try re-applying the thermal compound as it is my first proper build so I may of not done a good job on evenly distributing the paste across the cpu

The Evo should have come with two brackets to add a second fan in a Push Pull Configuration, this is how I run mine and it knocked 10ºC off the Max temp.

JayzTwocents (idk if you heard of him) has once told about applying thermal paste is different to AMD and Intel. I can't quite remember what is it, look it up if it matters for you. Good luck, I hope your 1st pc build will be success. Of course you shouldn't be really worried, because if it gets hotter than it should, it will automatically shut off.

AMD and Intel Chips vary a little, one is Concave and the Other Is Convex on the top but that does not change how to apply Thermal paste, this is not that hard of a task and for some reason on Tom's it's treated like Rocket Science.

I've added a second fan to the cpu cooler and it has given a straight up improvement temperature wise. It currently runs around 55-60 on Far Cry 3 max settings. I just cant wait until I get my damn Witcher 3 code I was promised with my graphics card but never received.
