I decided to go with the tripp lite you recommended. It seems like it will be the best solution to my needs/paranoia. Thanks everyone for your help, I appreciate it.

I would get a UPS for sure. It's always better to be safe then sory in any case. Go with an APC UPS with Power Conditioning. In most cases a brown out is more destructive then a surge.

I would definately suggest getting a UPS. Surge protectors protect against just that, surges, but I have had a lot more components fry from brown outs, which is where the power goes down to about 50% then back to full power and only a UPS will protect against that, and a ups will run you $60.00 where-as a new comp after being fried would run you a lot more...

Ummm. Yes I do actually. A proper line conditioner will regulate the voltage output to 115 Volts at 60Hz. At least that is what every Power Conditioner I have ever worked on in every CO and CO-LO have ever done. They are placed after the mains coming in, the UPS racks, and the Backup Generators and before any of the sensitive equipement. I'm not talking your average POS computer system either. I'm talking the high end switches used on the SONET rings and DWDM Multi-Plexers (IE Newbridge ATM switches, CISCO Catalyst and the such). Clean reliable power is fed into the power suply units of these machines and then turned into 48v DC to run the equipment in the racks.
