Should I buy an i5 4460 and a GTX 960 4gb or an i3 4170 and a GTX 970

Hello all I am looking to upgrade my system, and I am in a bit of a dilemma. I am getting good deals on these particular parts, so I can't really change them to for example, and r9 380 or 390.
I play games at 1080p like Rust, The Witcher 3, Fallout 4, CS:GO, lots of open world survival, and planning to try an Arma game. Thanks in advance, your help is very much appreciated!

i3 is not worth using for Gaming.

i5/960 has my vote for the long term. The combo's you have run a bit above $400 normally. I know where you can get a GTX 970 and an i5 4590 for $417 if that falls within your price range.

The pricing I am getting the Items are best case scenario(350), so there is probably no way to get the best of both worlds, but thanks for the insight!

Like others have said, it's easier to upgrade your GPU down the line than your CPU so the i5 makes more sense. In a couple years you should be able to just throw in a new GPU to replace the 960 and you would still be fine for gaming.

If you went with the i3 and wanted to upgrade in a couple years you would also likely need a new motherboard and RAM. You are making a compromise either way but the i5 and 960 puts you in a better position for the future.
