I just got a used switch im wondering if I should change the thermal paste. And
if I do replace the thermal paste should I change the thermal paste under the metal shield that covers the cpu?

Yes, you can change it. There's nothing stopping you from jumping off a cliff either if you so chose to do so.
No you shouldn't change it, for the same reason. Changing paste is a maintenance, and generally a last resort if temps are out of normal parameters, it's not a 'cure all' that fixes anything. Decent pastes generally last about 8 years± if unmolested, your Switch isn't close to that age.

my son has had every form of Nintendo hardware and NEVER EVER had we had to do anything to it. it all still works perfectly too, even after years and years. don't do it. no need.

Thanks for input the only reason i would want to change it is cause I just want the console to run as cool as possible. But I don’t know if changing the thermal paste would help with temps.
