A HD 7950 is on clearance for $170. i currently have a r9 270x and shadow of mordor stutters way too much and gta 5 almost uses all its vram. so would getting a 3gb card improve performance that much. I will be overclocking the card if i do get it. im using one 1080p monitor

Unless you can get a very good price for your 270x, it's almost certainly not worth it. That's a pretty small upgrade: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1033?vs=1043

The 7950/280 (same GPU) is still a pretty solid card despite the fact that's it's been on the market in difference guises for about 3 and a half years, but that's just too small an upgrade to be worthwhile. Unless you can get a similar price for your current card second hand (which is a BIG ask!)

I still run most games on high/Ultra with my setup (and that was before the i7 and I just had a 2500k) @ 1080p. The 7950 is by no means a bad card. I haven't played Shadows of Mordor though. But in Watch Dogs and AC4 at max settings, I got about 40-50 FPS on average. Rarely went below 30.

But I'm looking to upgrade now since I've had this card since they came out.
